The silence

Strangely quiet
Life subdued all around
There's barely a sight
And an absence of sound

I'm bemused if not lost
Just can't comprehend
What is happening here
Is this the end?

Roads are abandoned
No usual traffic in lanes
No beeping of horns
As frustration reigns

Today it is silent
A little eerie, truth told
The sun is bright, shining
But I feel a little cold

Station car park is empty
Save for the odd car or two
I've the choice of any space
Instead of having to queue

Have the zombies arrived
I could be persuaded
No! I know what it is
The Martians have invaded

Someone please!
Tell me what to do or say
*slaps self* Of course!
It's only bloody Friday.

Missed Communication

Task for the day
Presentation to prepare
Spread thoughts and ideas
Or lay my soul bare

Keep it high level
My face true and straight
Serve them a great dish
On a first class plate

Prepare speaking notes
Whilst travelling on the train
Time to compose myself
Guess I can't complain

Don't want it to be
Communication missed
Veer off course or topic
Not have them get this gist
Let's not have
Missed communication
This ain't some short term gig
I'm here for the duration

Curve balls thrown
As the day moves along
But I'm ready for my solo
Gonna belt out my own song

Slides up and ready
On my feet, I'm set
And here's where it gets taken wrong
And they won't forget

Didn't want it to be
Communication missed
See their hackles rise
They're blatantly pissed

Miscommunication
This could end quite badly

Apology offered

Wearyness in our eyes

Darkness reigns outside

The sun is last to rise

When Coventry arrives

The carriage empties out

Vacant seats lie everywhere

I can spread myself about

No need for Ben Elton's

Double-seat game

The world is my oyster

Such an awful shame

Kick back and relax

Belt out a tune or two

People watching can begin
