There's a question to pose
Can you not tell from my hair
Or the style of my clothes
Obscure references
To programmes long gone
Should tell you in what century
I truly belong
You say it's been fair
It's a compliment I'll take
After all there's not many
That I receive or I make
But then it reverses itself
In some cruel twist
Was there a point or meaning
I overlooked or plain missed
Too busy to think there could be thought
A lesson there's never time to be taught
What consumes every day
Knocked back without pause
No time just to play
Nor fight a good cause
What drowns every night
In a sea of things unsaid
Blink once, blink twice
Extinguish lights, off to bed
Bear with me, as I prattle in rhyme
It's the only thing not betrayed by time
Remember July the second
That first day
Is it now really
Almost a whole year away
All the courses and coffees
In the same freezing room
The scent of fresh flesh
Sweep clean, new broom
What has become of
All those ideas, designs
Have they made light of day
Or as rubbish consigned
Lost in the blur
And race of the day
Stop, look up
Hang on, what was I gonna say?
Too busy to breathe or break for thought
A lesson there's never time to be taught
What consumes every day
Knocked back without pause
No time just to play
Nor fight a good cause
What drowns every night
In a sea of things unsaid
Blink once, blink twice
Extinguish lights, off to bed
Bear with me, as I prattle in rhyme
It's the only thing not betrayed by time
I look at the clock
Knowing I should be asleep
But it seems that somethings
Will never keep
May be one day I'll get it
Finally understand
Time can flow past you like water
Or trap you like quicksand
