Din

Waiting for the onslaught
Bright lights and violent sound
Assaulting every sense
Encompassing, all around

Tension in the audience
Slowly starts to build
Before brains are rattled
And eardrums completely filled

People chatter in loud voice
And rattle excitedly
About who is their favourite
Is Lifeson or is it Lee

I scan the venue with distain
It's not the greatest place
But as my ticket was completely free
I should just shut my face

Less than thirty minutes now
The arena crowds out more
Won't be long before the whistles start
And everyone starts to roar

Hope they play my favourite song
But they never do
It's consigned to part of history
Describing what 'he' went through

I'd better take my seat soon
The show's about to begin
Bring on the lights, pictures too
And please bring on the din

BT

Waiting for the substance
To be drawn
Feels like I've been sat here
Since the dawn

What would a vampire
Make of the result
Cry out in despair
Or in rapturous tumult

How's the haemoglobin
Holding out
Is my constitution wilting
Or am I resolutely stout

Will they find too much red
In my alcohol stream
Is my %ABV too high
Or can I only dream

Call my name, pass a smile
It's just perfunctory, all the while
Pull the strap, tap a vein
Plunge the needle again and again
Until the good stuff starts to flow
Write the labels so we know
If a strange malady lies within
Then actions appropriate can begin

But for the answers we'll
Have to wait
Anything till then is just
Speculation or debate

Rain

Pitta patta
Rain, rain
The sound of you
On my window pane
Wakes me up
From restless sleep
I listen to
The dawn weep
But it's comforting
This disquiet, you know
Distracts me from
My ebb and flow
To this white noise
I'll doze off again
Thank you, thank you
Rain, rain

Normal Day

Wake up in the morning
To the sounds of birds at dawn
Click on the coffee machine
Stretch, let loose a yawn

Pad around the kitchen
Breakfast duly made
Shower, shave, schedule checked
Routine cooly played

I don't need a perfect day
A normal one's just fine
No lottery win or Midas touch
Bog standard for me's divine
Don't mind chores on a list
I'm not counting, I don't care
Left alone with just the simple things
A minute here, an hour there

Hang up the washing
Poach an egg or two
Talk about nothing special
But it's memorable through and through

Take a second to stop and pause
Gently sip some milky tea
Drink in all the splendour
Of the afternoon's simplicity

I don't yearn for a perfect day
A normal one's just fine
No lottery win or Midas touch
Bog standard for me's divine
Don't mind chores on a list
I'm not counting, I don't care
Left alone with just the simple things
And the perfect day's right there

Anticipation

Waiting for the first date
Nervous as hell
Trying to be cool
But you're captured by her spell

Minutes seem like hours
Every breath harbors expectation
Not sure you can last
Through all this anticipation

In the queue for the big ride
Hear the screams and cries
Doubting if you're brave enough
To face a harsh demise

The line moves all too quickly
You're at the loading station
Pulse is pounding massively
'Cause of anticipation

They say that it's half the fun
The waiting, waiting game
The build up equal to the prize
Both a burning flame
But you're never disappointed
In time expectantly spent
Each thought, hope, desire
Greater than the main event

Dreaming up some verses
Heart racing endlessly
Challenging myself in words
Trying to find the key

To unlock all this introspection
Bring an end to this frustration
Hit the tiny 'post' icon
Hasta luego anticipation
