Doors

Dreams flow easily
Desires follow suit
Their calls can be gentle
Or sharply acute
Think of ways to fulfil them
Plans so astute
As empty time passes
On your daily commute
It's grand to have plans
For some faraway shores
Now reach out your hand
And open those doors

Success breeds success
Isn't that what they say
Living in the moment
Day after day
But don't rest on your laurels
Hesitate or delay
Sometimes things don't come easy
Cast off despair or dismay
It's just a matter of time
Before it's all yours
Patience, my friend
Don't lose sight of your doors

Then you wake on Monday morning
There's snow on the ground
Every thought now is muffled
Barely registers a sound
It's not that you're waiting
For things to come around
But more that the journey
Has finally run aground
What do you do
When there are no more doors
All that remains
Are echoes and chores

Making It Up

Need a verse
To satisfy an urge
Had an F-day
That I need to purge

But words won't flow
Am locked in tight
Too much chat
Has left it's blight

Too much come
And too much go
Has robbed me of
My ebb and flow

Emotion, devotion
Makes it's mark
A lingering cloud
That's thick and dark

So what's the resolution
Do I fill my cup
With something that's bubbly
And simply sup

Or don my trainers
And run it out
Vent it all
Without scream or shout

Or turn the mirror away
Stop looking closeup
This F-day serves me right
For making it up

F-day

Snow

Can you tell when snow has fallen
From the moment that you wake
Whether deep in the dead of night
Or when the sun's about to break

Does your skin tingle slightly
Even though you're wrapped up warm
Knowing it's waiting for you
A light dusting or massive storm

Are the kid's screams of excitement
All you need to know
That nature's finally delivered
The prettiest winter show

For me, it's the way the air feels
A strange but warming glow
I'll pull back the curtains with a smile
And welcome in the snow
